Amagerstrand, a large building complex and former SAS workshop and office, has gone through a full transformation and now hosts UNITED, a business community, and Huone, an event hotel. Studio Heima was hired as architects and consultants throughout the building process.
The first part of the project consisted of working on the corridors and adding quality to these connecting spaces between private offices. We applied small nooks to the corridor to create variation in width and create seating options. We utilised colours to add atmosphere and identity, and used patterned Bolon flooring as a wayfinding element to mark entrances and exits. The second part of the project was the canteen. The new canteen caters to the entire complex, and consists of a main canteen and a guest canteen with a lounge. Due to the high traffic the canteen encounters, we focused on space planning, flow and optimization. The canteen has a variety of seating options, depending on the situation and amount people partaking in meals together. Situated in an 8m high old hanger, we worked with submerged
spots and knitted pendants from Made by Hand to create a sense of intimacy in the canteen. To give the canteen a clear identity and create a luxurious curtain aesthetic, we highlighted the two 7,5 meters high walls of the kitchen and the guest canteen. The walls are clad with 7 different patterned tiles in white. The dishwashing area, visible from the dining area, is clad in bright orange, making it pop. The staircase to the guest canteen, placed on top of the kitchen, is bright red and stands as a beautiful contrast to the white tiles.
